Preacher:
Passage: Matt. 16: 21
Service Type:

Bible Text: Matt. 16: 21 | Preacher: Amy Carlson

There needs to be a spiritual resurrection in our lives.  Jesus taught this to his disciples over and over.

I. Personal Death Defined.  Matt. 16:21

A.  GO… one step at a time.  God commanded, not suggested.

Being idle is not an option as a Christian.
Be Humble
Be submissive

B.  The suffering.

The Bread of affliction.

Deut. 16:1-3; 2 Chron. 18: 25-26; John 15:18-20

2.  From the Religious Crowd

C.  Death- I must die.  Matt. 16;22-23

Offence- a stumbling block; snare; trap
Savour- think upon; be interested in, care about, regard.

Don’t let Satan deceive you into thinking there’s another way.  There must be death to see life. so, we say death was defined by Jesus.

II.  Death Declined by Peter

Peter didn’t grasp the importance of the lesson that Jesus was trying to teach by his own example.  John 12:24-25

Denying Christ
Denying Death of Self
Phil. 2:5-8
incomplete obedience is disobedience

III.   Death Demonstrated-Matt. 4:19

When we die to self, the life of Jesus can pour out!
Peter followed the steps of Jesus…obedient unto death and be became a fisher of men!
He was able to teach and exhort the truth of suffering to others.              1 Pet. 2:19-24; 5:9

If there is no suffering for the cause of Christ, if there is no boldness, if there is no sacrifice…we have believed the lie that we can have revival without death.  We have adopted a belief that we can win the spiritual lottery without investment.  Have we forgotten the hope and the promises of eternity and traded them in for the temporary comforts of this life?

2 Chr. 4:16-18; 1 Pet. 5:10

If we are not willing to suffer for good and take a stand… we will fail…
